My review is not about the Golf Course itself, but about the Nature Trails. Very well maintained, extremely well marked, they offer a cool place to hike any time of the year. I like the Red trail, but the Blue trail is also quite nice since it takes you down close to the water. Nice place to take photos

I play plenty of golf at plenty of public and private courses. In this area I can’t imagine any club coming even close to this one. I mean wow , I couldn’t believe what a great place it was. Service at the pro shop was incredible. The check in was easy and the staff did everything short of hitting my tee shot for me off the first tee. They even offered complimentary range balls for me to warm up with. The club is in great condition. Scenery out of this world. And the play was moderate time of 4hrs 15 minutes. Certainly average. I did hear it could be a 5 plus hour round typically. Even the rangers pulled up to me at a tee box and said “aim towards the tower, lay back on a 3 wood 200-230 tops , you’ll like what you get” SOAB I wound up 66 yards out. Perfect. It was a blind hole and my first time playing there. I’ll say it like I see it. I’ve yet to play any public course this well maintained or well serviced. In the past 5 years. I assure you ,,, you’ll say the same.

Richter - a dump and embarrassment to Danbury. It's no wonder Danbury can't attract businesses and people are leaving the area. "Richter", as it is known, is really 5 things: a public golf course, a hiking trail, a tennis court, a basketball court, and a restaurant. Unfortunately the Board and Management are not qualified or incapable of performing their job duties in maintaining the hiking trail, tennis court and basketball court. As a hiking trail Richter does absolutely nothing to maintain the trail or help the hikers. Ironically the trail head is overgrown with grass and weeds even though it's on a golf course where the grass is maintained! The trail head is littered with garbage and becomes a pond when it rains because they refuse to put any of the tons of fill they have for the golf course in the depressions they created with their very own equipment! And this year they gave up and simply closed the tennis court for no reason. The golf course itself is about a 3 out of 5, the drainage is so poor that if it rains you will be slogging thru mud in your golf shoes. The fairway grass is patchy and weedy, they really need to give up and hire a lawn service. The bright spot is the restaurant, which has very good food and a wonderful wait staff. It's small enough for an intimate dinner and big enough for your office holiday party. In summary, Richter is a mediocre, run-down golf course that treats its taxpaying hikers, tennis and basketball players like second-class citizens. The Richter Board should be fired.

Scenic course. First time playing and some tricky holes where local knowledge would have been helpful. And it's the first course I've played where I was given a warning about humus.

In the 1980s this public course in Danbury was rated by Golf Digest as one of the best in the country. What Richter Park has going for it is the location, on rolling, wooded terrain beside the ample West Lake Reservoir. That water comes into play often, with 14 of the 18 holes featuring a water hazard, while the stiff slopes and newly renovated bunkers will punish even the smallest misjudgment. Safe to say that despite being a public course, Richter Park is a course for people confident in their accuracy. For non-residents, a full round will cost $73 on weekdays and $83 on weekends (cart complimentary).
